I'm so grateful for the opportunity to represent you and our neighbors here in Kandiyohi County in Saint Paul. I have said many times that this is the best job I have ever had. I have put my heart and soul into it and have worked each day to do the best I can do represent and fight for our area and policies that will move our state in the right direction.
We got a lot done in my first term; we made tremendous advancements in mental health, reformed nursing home funding to help our Greater Minnesota nursing homes, made major investments in our schools, and delivered much-needed avian flu relief. I was proud to chief author legislation that was eventually signed into law to secure bonding funds for the Willmar Wye project that will help train safety in Willmar, as well as funds for the University of Minnesota Poultry Testing Lab. This will be huge if we ever have another avian flu outbreak and will help us do testing much more quickly and help us in our fight against avian flu and other possible diseases
This past session, the legislature passed $35 million to help upgrade broadband in unserved and underserved areas. This brings our two-year total to $45 million, and when combined with federal funding will mean more than $120 million in 2017 alone. I was proud to chief author and help pass reforms to Minnesota's prescription monitoring program that will help combat our state's growing opioid crisis. We also passed one of the largest veteran tax cuts in state history, as well as a tax bill that would have provided $800 million in relief for farmers, teachers, college graduates paying back student loans, and more.
It's been an honor to serve you over the past two years. I'm running for re-election because I believe I've proven I can get thinks done for our community, and there's still more I can do. Please contact me any time with your comments, questions, and suggestions. I'm here to be your voice in Saint Paul, and rely on your comments and feedback to do my work. Whether you're a Democrat, Republican, or Independent, I'm here to work for you and do what I can to make Minnesota a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
